Registered 18 years agoSeems it is now possible to boot backups on unmodded consoles without the hassle of using PSO and a network adapter
I just booted my import viewtiful joe using my max drive pro, without the use of freeloader o/ (and the same method works for backups but i cant test that yet) - MikeD 28 Mar 2005 21:27:59 10,063 posts

Registered 18 years agoI believe he's talking about this. There's the possibility of booting from GC disk images on a PC's hard drive over the network adaptor, I have no idea about the possibility of mini DVDs being executed.
Nice idea though!

It's actually a hacked, and further developed executable version of the BIOS for the vipergc modchip. With the benefit of running from memory card rather then a modchip - MikeD 28 Mar 2005 22:34:19 10,063 posts

Registered 18 years agoI see. Interesting. And since there is no real online scene for the gamecube there is no incentive not to flash the bios.
Small dvd's are available from most stores that have a good amount of writable media, soumis. I heard the ritek g04 disks were best for comatibility. - RetroidModerator 28 Mar 2005 22:40:02 45,464 posts

If you scroll down near the bottom 'mr chips' gives a rough idea of how to do it.
You just need a way of getting the save to a mem card - adding extra hardware is unessecary

Indeed, this isn't Hints. If you know something tell it, or don't, but this is just a silly way of dragging a topic out for longer then required. - sephy 28 Mar 2005 23:02:00 4,036 posts

I could understand if it was a case of Xbox Scenes 'usual places', but all you had to do was give some sort of link to forum post.
All you've done is just wasted about an hour of several peoples time. OK, you bought it to our attention (thanks!) but it would no doubt come to light sooner or later, just without having to jump through hoops. - Mr_Dave 28 Mar 2005 23:19:00 496 posts

Hacking? My ass. There's allot of people here who play import titles and would love to know an easy way to do it and there's noting wrong with that.

Yeah, I had that problem getting the standard version. Datel sell them direct. They were also gracious enough to send me a max drive pro when I only ordered the standard version I *think* the AR Max Evo edition has the pro software as well (the difference is literally just in the gamecube disc - the pro has a option to run hombrew, the standard does notfreek
er, if you want an easy way to play imports, then you buy an action replay (which includes freeloader). This is not a replacement for freeloader if you only want to play imports. GAME sell the Action Replay for £10, and although their packaging is slightly different and doesn't advertise Freeloader on it (for obvious reasons), its the same disc that Datel sell direct (I bought mine from GAME so know this rather then just saying it)

Boot the machine using AR, swap the disc, then play. Which is cheaper and easier then getting this running if you just want imports.
Although i'm sure you knew that all that already, as Freeloader is far from an unknown program. - neosalad 2 May 2005 09:23:04 971 posts

Registered 17 years agoyeah. maxdrive pro lets u run them, though u either need mini-dvdr or a new case that lets u use full-sized dvdr (cheaper)
and some peopel also use the SD-memory card and action replay to do the same from what i've heard.... well. the modded viper bios certainly mentions SD-card memory stick also.

It doesn't, that was just a FUD. The protection is based on a barcode on the disc. The GC is extremely sensitive about the disc quality though, with Princo media mine crashed all the time, with Traxdata Ritek it works much better (using a Max Drive Pro).

Don't think the Action Replay will be enough, unless it was bundled with the Max Drive Pro-disc which lets you start program from its mem card.
so let me get this right. with action replay you can now swap trick gamecube games? does action replay bypass the barcode check?
1. You boot the Cube with the Max Drive Pro disc
2. You run a loader from your memcard
3. you swap
voilá.
edit:The trick is that the loader/modified BIOS reads the barcode from a legal disc, then it halts for eight seconds to let you swap.
